POSITION SUMMARY:

The Culture & Heritage Development Coordinator will possess a strong sense of public service, will develop connections with the public and resident groups in the effort to better understand their objectives. The Culture & Heritage Development Coordinator will be required to have excellent communication skills, will thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a commitment to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.

The Culture & Heritage Development Coordinator will need to develop the ability to anticipate, examine, and adopt new and innovative solutions to work efficiently and will be a crucial driver for the continual and progressive advancement of the Community Development team’s performance. Tasks will include, but are not limited to, the following:

JOB DUTIES:

  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of special projects related to cultural and heritage service delivery within the community as prioritized by Council.
  • Coordinate the development of a county archive in collaboration with relevant community organizations.
  • Stay apprised of provincial, national, and international heritage challenges and changes in legislation and relate these to Council.
  • Identify grant opportunities, apply for funding, administer funds, and report on the projects.
  • Provide support and outreach to the culture & heritage community within the municipality.
  • Identify and maintain a strong working relationship with the culture & heritage community.
  • Partner with other organizations and existing organizations to maximize heritage education opportunities.
  • Support community advocacy needs as required.
  • Create and maintain systems to identify outreach needs in various communities throughout the municipality.
  • Cultivate relationships within the municipality to benefit growth.
  • In collaboration with management, assist in the preparation and administration of the detailed Department budget.
  • Assist in the development of relevant policies and procedures and their implementation.
  • Provide excellent resident service; respond to needs as required.
  • Research, design, implement and facilitate training, educational programs based on community needs.
  • Adhere to the Municipality’s policy regarding records management.
  • Adhere to federal & provincial legislation and regulations.
  • Conduct and attend safety, operational and training meetings as required.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

SAFETY:

  • Ensure all policies and procedures set forth by the Municipality of the County of Inverness are observed at all times.
  • Report to the Community Development Director, all work situations which are suspected of being unhealthy or unsafe.
  • Report to the Community Development Director, any employee whose on-the-job performance or actions contravenes established safety procedures or work practices.
  • Report all near-misses and incidents to the Community Development Director
  • Report to the Manager of Operations, all Occupational Health & Safety related injuries or property damage regardless of severity.
  • Submit reports on accidents and other hazardous conditions discovered and promptly attend to all hazardous situations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • A degree or diploma in Arts, Heritage or Cultural Studies or other related field of study is considered an asset.
  • Two (2) years’ previous experience within a cultural or heritage organization.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
  • Superior and professional communication skills (verbal and written) are essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail, a high regard for accuracy, and the ability to provide high quality outputs.
  • Demonstrated excellence working on community-facing initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive “can-do” attitude.
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively to meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing workload demands.
  • A dedicated team player with the ability to work in a self-directed manner effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to adhere to issues of confidentiality.
  • Valid driver’s license.
