About the Opportunity

The Facilities and Event Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Cape Breton Exhibition facilities and projects under the direction of the CBEX Society Volunteer Board of Directors.  This multipurpose facility has been a landmark fixture in the community for the past hundred years.  The facility can support livestock/equestrian events, as well as community-based recreation and entertainment opportunities. 

About You

The ideal candidate will have a background in facility management and/or event planning.  They will be a multifaceted leader, responsible for overseeing all aspects of facility operations. 

The Facilities and Events Manager accountabilities:

  • Managing public inquiries, bookings, and on-site operations
  • Develop and manage annual operational, capital, and event budgets
  • Maintain record of financial transactions for the accounting firm
  • Work in collaboration with a volunteer board of directors, attend meetings and maintain organization records
  • Responsible for providing daily direction to respective team members (staff, students, and volunteers) by assigning and monitoring for quality work completion
  • Build highly productive, effective and collaborative relationships with stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships relating to event sponsorships
  • Complete funding applications and general reports as required



Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work on multiple projects while consistently managing deadlines
  • Good technical skills and experience working on a variety of platforms; social media and marketing skills are considered an asset
  • Knowledge and experience working with accounting software considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and react quickly to changing circumstances
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks: lift, carry, walk or stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions

This position is salaried, full time and flexible.  Seasonal peak times of the year, based on events, will require more hours including evenings and weekends.  The Facilities and Event Manager will work from the Exhibition office as required, with flexibility to work from home at times.

Salary commensurate with experience
