Position: Firefighter(s)
Employment Status: Regular Full-time
Bargaining Unit: International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF)
Salary: As per the IAFF Local 2779 Collective Agreement
JOB SCOPE: This is a skilled position entailing firefighting, rescue, and other related emergency services. A firefighter is responsible for rapidly, efficiently, and safely performing various duties under emergency conditions frequently involving considerable hazard. They also participate in programs for the prevention of fires and the saving of life and property. Furthermore, the position includes routine duties in the maintenance of firefighting vehicles, equipment, and fire department facilities. A periodic review of the position requirements and responsibilities is completed by an officer to maintain and improve the efficiency of the fire department as a whole.
Minimum Qualifications: (Requested copies listed below must be included upon application)
- Grade 12 or GED Equivalent
- Current Level I Firefighter certification by an IFSAC or ProBoard accredited institution
- Good Oral and Written Communications Skills
- Proof of Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certificates
- Must be physically fit and maintain a level of fitness required to perform the duties of a firefighter as a condition of employment.
- Must be medically fit for duty as outlined in NFPA1582.
- Drivers’ abstract indicating an acceptable driving record.
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required as part of employment.
Preferred Qualification:
- IFSAC or Pro Board Level 2 Firefighter Certification
- Advanced Medical First Responder Certification
