Project Job Description
The Centre for Sound Communities is an arts-led social innovation lab at Cape Breton University involved in:
- Carrying out research through artistic practices (mainly dance, music, theatre & digital media) as well as standard methods and strategies across a range of disciplines.
- Providing training for students, faculty and community partners
- Working with communities to develop connections and access resources
- Building research teams and networks to meet partners’ needs and solve concrete problems
- Addressing systemic inequities through a focus on research that serves the needs of under-represented and under-resourced populations
CSC Director Dr. Marcia Ostashewski works with an expanding network of established and emerging researchers around the world to facilitate a growing number of creative community-engaged research projects, including:
- innovative sound and movement performance pieces
- digital & digitized artifacts such as
- audio/visual materials (CDs, DVDs, documentary films)
- publications for both academic and public audiences (always with a deliberate eye toward new approaches to advancing research).
Position Summary
The Centre for Sound Communities - Research Communications Specialist plays an integral role in creating profile and awareness for the Centre for Sound Communities and the many ongoing research projects associated. The Research Communications Specialist develops and executes communications plans in accordance with University and Centre guidelines. This position is funded through a research grant and will be paid as a short-term contract up to $10,000. Remuneration commensurate with experience and relevant institutional policies and practices.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and implement a strategic communications plan to increase awareness of The Centre for Sound Communities research activities.
- As part of the communications plan, conduct an audit of existing communications practice and make recommendations based on leading practice.
- Lead and identify ongoing communication opportunities for projects from start to completion, collaborating closely with researchers, as well as team members from central communications and research communications, and other stakeholders as determined.
- Develop and manage research-related content across various platforms, including web and social media, to align with strategic goals and existing brand voice.
