Community Volunteer - Volunteer Community Representative
Volunteer Community Representative
Island Community Justice Society
Work from homeDescription
Volunteer Community Representatives have life experiences to share, and attend restorative justice sessions as subject matter experts.
The community rep may share their story on how a similar incident may have affected them; they may speak on behalf of the community that the specific incident took place in; or they may have insight to share on issues at hand.
Example:
An incident has occurred where John Doe robbed a convenience store. The store owner doesn't wish to participate, but Jane Doe once committed the same offence and was formally charged, so she comes to speak about how different her life is with a criminal record.
Alternatively, Jane may have been a business owner and can speak to the harm done to staff when a robbery occurs.
You may be called on once per month to attend a session. These are one-time appearances. We always try to keep volunteers within their own communities, but may occasionally ask that you attend in other areas if possible.
***Please note, this is an UNPAID volunteer position.
