Title: Employer Engagement Specialist (EES)

Reports to: Operations Manager

Position Status: Full-time

Salary Range: $50,836.50 - $57,232.50 annually

Start Date: As soon as possible

Office Locations: Welton St. Sydney 

 The YMCA of Cape Breton is looking for a dedicated professional to join our team as an Employer Engagement Specialist supporting our Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centres.

Position Summary

The Employer Engagement Specialist is responsible for cultivating relationships with employers in their region. They provide frontline support to employers to assist them with their human resource needs such as recruitment issues. They act as regional connectors for employer supports, facilitating local employer networks and participating in regional committees.

They also act as a liaison between employers and Government, Nova Scotia Works Centres and other community and industry stakeholders. In this liaison role, they ensure that employers have the supports that they need to address their human resource and strategic planning needs by providing appropriate referrals to Government, community and industry programs and services. They also collect information on local employers to report back to Government.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

In support of our mandate, team and clients, the Employer Engagement Specialist will:

  • Provide day-to-day assistance to employers with their human resource needs such as recruitment;
  • Meet with employers at their workplace in efforts to support their needs;
  • Promote and facilitate access to Government, industry and community programs, resources and services;
  • Work with the other NS Works Centre staff to facilitate employers finding appropriate, skilled employees;
  • Facilitate and participate on regional committees that have a strategic connect to employer engagement;
  • Collect employer information for Government to make effective program and service planning decisions;
  • Remain abreast of funding programs, community organizations, service providers and referral agencies;
  • Actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings;
  • Work pro-actively with employers and other strategic community and industry partners (e.g. Sector Councils);
  • Coordinate regional responses to employer, business and industry needs (e.g. job fairs);
  • Provide business liaison support for Government programs and services, includes reporting on the needs of local employers;
  • Facilitate and/or participate in employer-focused regional groups and committees as needed.
  • Participate in program and service development that is responsive to the evolving needs of clients – ensuring maximum effectiveness and efficiency,
  • Apply a solution-focused framework, and collect, use and analyze information.
  • Demonstrate awareness and knowledge about diversity and demonstrate respect for diversity with all clients.
  • Follow the code of ethics and apply the ethical decision-making model,
  • Demonstrate professional attributes; and;
  • Must be willing to cross train and assume other duties, as required.

  

Qualifications

  • Degree or post-secondary education in Human Resources field or related field of study or a combination of education and work-related experience;
  • Two to five years experience offering employer support services;
  • Bilingualism considered an asset;
  • Experience in effectively troubleshooting employer/business HR needs;
  • Experience providing assistance and referrals to appropriate agencies and Government;
  • Experience in identifying services, programs and resources to align with employer HR needs and make referrals as appropriate,
  • Experience in proactively managing accounts with timely follow-up.
  • Industry knowledge; ability to develop/maintain strong employer relationships and promote services;
  • Ability to market the business services and offer effective HR solutions to the needs of the employer;
  • Adept in marketing, promotion and public relations.
  • Ability to access and effectively use information and communications technology;
  • Solid understanding of Labour Market Information, trends, fluctuations, occupations and employment opportunities;
  • Commitment to inclusionary practice, ethical decision making, confidentiality and working with diverse groups.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines and tasks;
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgement in the handling of confidential information;
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in the resolution of issues, process improvement and evaluation;
  • High level of initiative is needed to work independently and respond to unanticipated items;
  • Committed to professional development and career self-management;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills – experience facilitating considered an asset, and;
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed.

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training, as well as successfully completing First Aid and CPR training. Travel will be required.
