Position Summary:

The Supervisor, Building Supports and Services (BSS) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Building Services and Maintenance Department, the equipment and systems, as well as the overall safety and security of the properties of Breton Ability. The Supervisor BSS plans, organizes and is responsible for the operation, security, and maintenance of the organization and home structures, grounds, furnishings, and its mechanical, electrical, and safety systems. They will ensure all practices are in accordance with standards and guidelines set forth by applicable Government legislation, Infection Control Guidelines, OHS Guidelines, and the policies and procedures of Breton Ability. This is not a bargaining unit position. 

Key Responsibilities:

1.       Oversee custodial care and security of properties

2.       Selection and requisition of equipment and supplies required to maintain, alter, or effect minor repairs to the properties.

3.       Meet with SLT to discuss problems and report on department activities.

4.      Direct and schedules upkeep, repair, and alterations of the building equipment, security and safety systems, furnishings, and grounds in accordance with established standards.

5.       Commissions outside contractual services.

6.       Acts as a technical liaison between SLT and the organization's own personnel or tradesmen.

7.       Maintains building plans, specs, and shop drawings for the facility.

8.       Submits current manpower and material reports and budgets to SLT.

9.       Completes and submits the daily scheduling and bi-weekly payroll for employees.

10.   Prepares and submits the quarterly reports for the department.

11.   Develop, review, and update departmental policies and procedures.

12.   Responds to concerns, complaints, and compliments submitted to the department.

13.   Prioritizes maintenance services required on work identified through the routine maintenance request system, as well as work identified through audits and inspections.

14.   Acts as facility Fire Marshal. 

Minimum qualifications and experience:

·       Possesses Provincial trade certification – Red Seal (Carpenter, Plumber, and/or Electrician)

·       Five (5) years of experience in building maintenance

·       Five (5) years in the construction field

·       Management experience

·       Maintains professional development and education to promote lifelong learning

·       First Aid and CPR certification

·       Low Arousal (Can be acquired)

·       Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.

·       Experience and comfort in interaction with persons with disabilities (intellectual, mental health, physical) and with complex needs.

·       Valid Driver’s License and Access to a reliable vehicle

·       Organizational excellence — highly detail-oriented with strong planning and analytical skills.

·       Teamwork and independence — able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

·       Professional judgment — demonstrates discretion, integrity, and sound decision-making in stressful or sensitive situations.

·       Interpersonal effectiveness — respectful, empathetic, and skilled in clear, professional communication.
