Position
Summary:
The
Maintenance – Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and
repair of electrical systems in the main building, other buildings on the
property, and community homes, while also performing cross-trade maintenance
tasks as part of the broader team. The position requires technical expertise in
electrical wiring, circuits, panels, and related systems, along with strict
adherence to safety regulations and electrical codes. This role ensures safe,
functional, and reliable electrical systems that support a comfortable, secure,
and accessible living environment. The Maintenance – Electrician contributes
directly to the well-being of participants and staff by maintaining electrical
safety, preventing system failures, and ensuring all work meets applicable
codes and standards.
Key
Responsibilities:
·
Assemble, install, test and maintain electrical or
electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures using hand
tools and power tools.
·
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and
components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a
breakdown and correct the problem.
·
Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or
other components.
·
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components
to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to
ensure compliance with codes.
·
Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in
electrical working, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as
ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of
system.
·
Installation of phone and data lines.
·
Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install,
maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures.
·
Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging
trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.
·
Ability to estimate time and materials needed for
assigned work projects.
·
Conducts inspections of fire safety equipment to
include illuminated devices, smoke and fire doors, panic bars, floor pockets,
glass, hinges, seals and hold open devices.
·
Visually inspect fire extinguishers, mounting hardware,
seals, gauges and signs inspection logbooks.
·
Maintains facility grounds to include lawns, plants,
shrubbery, road and parking areas.
·
The Maintenance - Electrician is responsible for duties
which may not be listed under “Job Duties & Tasks” but may be assigned by
the supervisor when within the scope of their ability, training or experience
to meet organizational requirements.
· Cross Trade work will be required.
Minimum qualifications and experience:
·
Valid Nova Scotia Journeyperson Electrician
Certification (Construction or Industrial), or Red Seal Endorsement is
preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be
considered.
·
Minimum 3-5 years of electrical maintenance
experience, preferably in residential, healthcare, or multi-site environments.
·
Strong understanding of the Canadian
Electrical Code and provincial regulations.
·
Strong communication skills and ability to
work respectfully in disability support environments.
·
Ability to meet the physical requirements of
the role.
·
Excellent written and verbal skills
·
Excellent work and attendance record
·
Takes a collaborative approach to teamwork
·
Must participate in skills upgrading programs,
education sessions and hands-on training
· Maintains professional
development and education to promote lifelong learning
·
Valid
Nova Scotia driver’s license and ability to travel between locations.
