Job Summary
A Line Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals according to recipes and established standards. They work in a fast-paced environment and ensure food quality, safety, and sanitation. Key tasks include setting up stations and stocking ingredients, preparing ingredients for cooking, cooking menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and adhering to food safety and sanitation guidelines. The ideal candidate will have experience in a kitchen environment, strong teamwork and communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. Our Line Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking food for our café, restaurant, tavern, and special events.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking food according to established recipes and standards
- Ensuring the quality and consistency of all dishes served
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment
- Assisting with inventory management and stock control
- Communicating with the kitchen team and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Experience in a kitchen environment is an asset
- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and culinary terminology
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Appreciation for the potential of leveraging a historical setting
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- WHMIS and OH&S certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Food Handlers certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Reliable transportation to the Fortress of Louisbourg
