Reporting to the Owner, the Accounting Technician is responsible for, but not limited to, supporting a variety of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting functions for multiple clients while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Accounting Technician will work closely with clients and the Owner to manage payroll processing, reconciliations, remittances, financial records, and year-end support in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Core Accountabilities:
- Processing weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payrolls, including related payroll administration and remittances.
- Managing payroll source deduction, HST remittances, and government filings in accordance with regulatory deadlines.
- Reviewing, entering, and maintaining financial data, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Preparing and maintaining client bookkeeping records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, working papers, and supporting documentation.
- Reviewing financial information for accuracy, completeness, and consistency prior to reporting deadlines.
- Building and maintaining positive professional relationships with clients through responsive and proactive communication.
- Supporting year-end reporting requirements, including T4, T4A, T5, and other government filings.
- Preparing personal tax returns (T1) and self-employment/business schedules (T2125).
- Communicating directly with clients to collect financial information, answer inquiries, and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring confidentiality of financial information.
- Supporting the continuous improvement of accounting and administrative processes.

Qualifications:
Education
& Experience
- Post-secondary education in accounting, bookkeeping, or business administration, and/or commensurate experience is required.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in bookkeeping, payroll, accounting, or a related financial role is required.
- Working towards a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is considered an asset.
- Experience processing payroll and preparing payroll remittances is required; in a multi-client or multi-pay frequency environment is considered a strong asset.
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial record management is required.
- Experience preparing account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting financial reporting is required.
- Experience working with multiple client files or in a public practice environment is considered an asset.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online is preferred; experience with other similar accounting software is considered an asset.
- Experience preparing T1 and T2125 tax returns is considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple client files and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and sound judgement when handling sensitive financial information.
- High degree of professionalism when dealing with clients.
- Exceptional time-management and organizational skills.
- Able to provide a clear criminal record is required.
- Valid driver’s licence with reliable own transportation is required.
