NOW HIRING PHYSIOTHERAPY AIDE – FULL-TIME/PERMANENT
Title: Physiotherapy Aide
Reports to: Physiotherapist / Occupational Therapist and in their absence the Director of Therapeutic Services.
Status: Unionized; UNIFOR Local 4620
Wage: $19.50 - $21.50 per hour with shift premiums of $2.35/hour for shifts between 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. plus time and a half for shifts worked on holidays.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Job Summary: The Physiotherapy Aide is a valued member of the Therapeutic Services team, supporting the delivery of physiotherapy and occupational therapy services. In this role, the Aide helps with assigned restorative programs, maintains treatment areas and equipment, and monitors and reports residents’ responses to interventions. All duties are performed under the direction and supervision of a Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist. This position does not involve assessing, planning, or modifying treatment programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out physiotherapy and occupational therapy programs as directed by the Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist.
- Assigned activities may include:
- Ambulation and mobility exercises
- Transfers (manual and/or mechanical lift, in accordance with training)
- Passive range of motion and other prescribed exercise programs
- Application and removal of therapeutic modalities (e.g., hot packs) as directed
- Application of prescribed splints and supports as directed.
- Provide encouragement and assistance to residents during therapeutic activities to promote participation and safety.
- Observe residents’ responses to therapy and report any changes in condition or concerns promptly to the Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, and/or nursing staff.
- Communicate effectively with members of the interdisciplinary team to support continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of assigned activities in accordance with facility documentation standards and under the direction of the Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, equipment, and supplies in accordance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Maintain inventory management, including stocking and requesting supplies as directed.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and safety standards, including infection control practices and safe body mechanics.
- Perform all duties within the scope of the Physiotherapy Aide role and follow direction provided by the Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist.
- Respect resident rights, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in education, in-services, and quality improvement activities as required.
- Maintain familiarity with relevant facility policies and Therapeutic Services procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned that are consistent with the scope of the Physiotherapy Aide role.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a Physiotherapy Aide, Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant, Disability Support program, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Experience working in a long-term care setting preferred.
- Effective English communication skills with the ability to read, write and understand written text in English.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to take direction and collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
- A clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check is required as a condition of employment.
- A functional assessment is also required as a condition of employment to confirm your ability to meet the physical demands of the job. This will be arranged for you at a later date.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push or pull up to 35-50 lbs.
- Ability to assist residents with varying levels of mobility and cognitive ability.
