Tajikeimɨk is the new and developing health and wellness organization that is leading health transformation on behalf of Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia. In collaboration with Chiefs, Grand Council, and Health Directors, Tajikeimɨk will build on and evolve the health and wellness services and programs used by Mi’kmaw people in Nova Scotia; improve health service delivery; and strengthen coordination with Federal and Provincial health system partners-with the goal of improving overall health for Mi’kmaq and communities.

Tajikeimɨk is seeking a Community Healing Coordinator (full time, 1 Year term)to support Mi’kmaw communities in strengthening community-led crisis response, healing through loss, grief, trauma, and wellness planning. Reporting to the Healing Through Loss Lead, this role works closely with community leadership, Health Directors, wellness teams, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, service partners, and the Tajikeimɨk Mental Wellness Team. The Coordinator will help advance the Healing Through Loss Framework across the 13 Mi’kmaw communities through culturally safe, strengths-based engagement, resource coordination, shared learning, and partnership development.

Community Crisis Response and Coordination:

• Coordinate culturally safe supports for crisis response, grief, loss, trauma, and wellness.

• Support front-line workers and help identify healing priorities. Healing Through Loss Framework Implementation:

• Support engagement, implementation, and evaluation of the Healing Through Loss Framework.

• Plan sessions, meetings, follow-up, and local implementation plans.

• Promote culturally grounded grief, loss, healing, resilience, and Mi’kmaw resources.

Partnerships and Community Engagement:

• Build relationships with communities, health teams, providers, and partners.

• Liaise between communities, Tajikeimɨk, and regional providers.

• Support knowledge sharing and Community of Practice sessions.

Capacity Building and Education:

• Support mapping, training, coaching, mentorship, and resources.

• Co-develop culturally relevant tools and materials.

• Promote trauma-informed, culturally safe, community-led practices.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting:

• Track engagement, implementation progress, outcomes, and emerging community needs.

• Gather feedback, identify service gaps, and prepare updates, reports, and recommendations.

Workforce Wellness and Community of Practice Leadership:

• Support workforce wellness and the Community of Practice.

• Foster peer learning, mentorship, collaboration, safety, resilience, and preparedness.

• Support staff wellness, self-care, and reflective practice with partners, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers.

What we’re looking for:

Education & Experience:

• A degree in Social Work, Public Health, Community Development,

Indigenous Studies, Mental Health and Addictions, or a related field.

• At least 2–3 years of experience in community mental wellness, crisis

response, Indigenous health, or community development.

• Experience working respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers,

community members, and partners.

Knowledge:

• Strong knowledge of mental wellness, grief and loss, trauma informed care, suicide intervention principles, crisis response, and community healing.

• Knowledge of L’nu culture, traditions, healing practices, culturally safe service delivery, and Mi’kmaw language is considered an asset.

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong interpersonal, facilitation, communication, collaboration, and evaluation skills.

• Ability to work effectively with communities, health teams, educators, service providers, and external partners.

• Ability to travel throughout Nova Scotia as needed; a valid driver’s licence is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of Indigenous-led research, Indigenous data sovereignty, and the L’nu’k Mental Wellness and Healing Framework.

• A wholistic approach to integrating Mi’kmaw cultural practices, traditional activities, and healing methods into wellness supports.

• Commitment to cultural integrity, community empowerment, and Tajikeimɨk’s vision for Mi’kmaw health and wellness through self-determination.

• Up-to-date criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check if required).
