JOB SCOPE
Under the direction of the
Manager of Engineering Services, or designate assists with routine and complex
technical engineering related activities for environmental, water, sewer,
street, and other public works projects and programs. Prepare and maintain proper plans and record
files.
MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Assist GIS data collection and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain Engineering & Public Works Drawing File System.
- Researches, records, maps and other data to obtain typical engineering data such as location of sewer mains, water mains, hydrants, etc. and zoning district designations or special property assessments.
- Using AutoCAD design software, drafts detailed dimensional drawings such as those needed for street, water, sewer, drainage and other utility plans, systems and projects.
- Calculates dimensions, profile specifications and quantities of materials such as pipe, concrete and asphalt.
- Provides inspection services at municipal construction sites to determine conformance of infrastructure installation by outside contractor meets specifications.
- Assists Senior Engineering Technologists to ensure that construction and repair of transportation, water or wastewater systems meet control requirements.
- Assist Senior Engineering Technologist in the preparation of engineering plans and specifications, coordinates required advertising for bids.
- Assists with reviewing construction of the municipal public works projects.
- Assists in the development of sanitary sewer, water, storm drainage and street system drawings databases and plans.
- Assists in the maintenance of engineering and infrastructure records. Prepares AutoCAD based as-built plans for street, water, sewer or light systems.
- Prepares reports detailing infrastructure acceptance tests conducted and results. Drafts and calculates field notes to document quantities, alignment, grade and locations according to project plans or to document monthly and final progress estimates.
- Assists Municipal Survey Technician to obtain topographical details of sites.
- Assists Senior Engineering Technologist in project management for the construction of the municipal projects by outside contractors.
- Performs a variety of office related functions, including preparing permits, correspondence, maps, presentation materials, brochures, reducing field notes, printing materials, answering phones and responding to inquiries from contractors, developers, property owners, staff and the general public.
- Other duties assigned by the Manager of Engineering Services or designate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS(Must include copies of the items listed below)
- Grade 12 or GED equivalent.
- Pre-Technology Program – Drafting-Plans Record Management.
- Minimum of five years related experience.
- Minimum two years’ experience with AutoCAD Software.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Criminal Records Check verification is required as a condition of employment.
- Medical assessments including but not limited to physical, vision, and hearing tests may be required. The assessments must show the capacity of performing tasks of the classification. This will take place at a later date.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods as applicable to a municipal setting.
- Knowledge of applicable municipal policies, laws and regulations affecting Division activities.
- Considerable knowledge with the Microsoft Office Suite components (Excel, Access).
- Skill in AutoCAD software drafting and field inspection.
- Ability to prepare, organize and maintenance engineering office data, reports and systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information, orally and in writing, to property owners, employees, consultants, and the public.
- Knowledge of engineering survey technique.
- Ability to prepare, organize and maintain engineering field and office data, reports and systems.
