Dalhousie University and Cape Breton University have partnered to establish the Cape Breton Medical Campus (CBMC) in Sydney, Nova Scotia, with the first cohort of learners set to be admitted in 2025. CBMC is dedicated to enhancing healthcare in rural communities by increasing the number of family physicians and specialists, advancing a preventative and collaborative care model, and creating opportunities for interdisciplinary education and research. A key partner in the Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub, CBMC is also a leader in rural clinical trials and aging-related research.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean Pre-clerkship, CBMC, the Director of Interprofessional Education (IPE) & Service Learning will work closely with the Assistant Dean Skilled Clinician to design, implement, and promote IPE curriculum and service-learning opportunities at CBMC. This position ensures a comparable Med 1 and Med 2 curriculum is delivered in Cape Breton, while also coordinating and overseeing IPE activities for Med 3 and 4 across all clinical teaching sites. The Director will collaborate with health professions program leaders at Cape Breton University and Nova Scotia Community College to foster engagement and participation in IPE events, benefiting all participants.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring effective program support, communication, and the delivery of a high-quality, standardized curriculum. They will cultivate external champions for IPE and service-learning, foster interprofessional and interinstitutional collaboration, and develop innovative learning activities and service opportunities for students at all levels of medical education. Additional responsibilities include providing faculty development, reviewing program data to recommend improvements, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, contributing to research and scholarship, and representing CBMC on committees, working groups, and at external events.
This role is a 0.2 FTE role and the ability to work flexible hours within the CBMC schedule structure is a requirement
Some Qualifications of this role are but not limited to:
- MD degree
- Master’s degree in Education or Medical Education considered an asset.
- Experience in an IPE environment is preferred, along with exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Familiarity with Brightspace, One45, and SharePoint would be beneficial. The successful
- Be a self-starter, capable of working independently while exercising initiative and sound judgment in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
