Position Status: Full Time, Permanent
Salary Range:$52,000- $58,000 per year

Position Summary
Under the
leadership of the Director of Member Relations, the Manager of Recreational
Programming and Day Camps is responsible for leading and ensuring a positive
and impactful experience for program participants, and members, as well as
department staff and volunteers. They are responsible
for collaborating with their team, as well as consulting with key stakeholders,
to develop, organize and deliver programs and activities for our YMCA that
reach various target demographics (i.e. youth, teens, adults, seniors) and that
align with our strategic plan.
The Manager of Recreational Programming and Day Camps will oversee our
summer and day camps, child and youth member programs, adult and seniors
programming, and related initiatives at the YMCA of Cape Breton. The role is
responsible for program supervision and development, quality assurance, special
events, human resource management of their team, and meeting department budget
goals in alignment with YMCA policies, procedures, and standards.
The Manager of Recreational Programming
and Day Camps is also responsible for creating a safe and enjoyable
environment for participants and members, as well as ensuring that all programs
are in compliance with YMCA policies and procedures. The Manager of
Recreational Programming and Day Camps will lead a passionate team of
employees and volunteers and will effectively communicate with staff,
volunteers, and participants, and motivate and inspire them to reach their
goals. This position will make a positive impact on the lives of individuals of
all ages and backgrounds.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of staff and volunteers, ensuring fair, consistent, and equitable administration of all talent management processes including recruitment, selection, onboarding, development, recognition, work allocation and performance management policies.

- Model and champion YMCA behavioral standards regarding professionalism, discretion, and respectful workplace requirements. Ensure all YMCA Child Safety, Protection, and Certification standards are enforced for both staff and volunteers.
- Develop innovative programs that support the Health & Wellness retention plan, enhance youth department growth, and align with YMCA’s Standards for safety, maintenance, mission, and brand.
- Lead planning of annual community events such as the annual Kids Expo and Seniors Expo.
- Work with camp staff to promote, implement and evaluate a range of youth programs that are relevant, inclusive and of the highest quality offered. Work to maximize use of Frank Rudderham Family YMCA, especially the new community programming centre for programs and day/summer camps that align with community needs.
- Foster and maintain collaborative partnerships with external agencies, community groups, associations to enhance delivery of responsive, meaningful programming and profiling the Y as a strong community partner. Support a collaborative work environment by fostering inclusive, positive working relationships with colleagues, internal departments.
- Develop, manage, monitor and evaluate annual budgets for department.
- Ensure effective internal and external communications, including timely response to program and day camp questions, requests for information, addressing member/participant concerns, interdepartmental sharing/collaboration.
- Work with the marketing team to promote YMCA programs through online platforms, community events, and in-branch initiatives. Also work with marketing team to communicate day camp and program schedules each session to members, participants, membership services staff, and program teams, ensuring clear and timely information for all stakeholders
- Provide leadership to the level of service delivery for the department using Experience Standards
- Provide support to Association promotions, events, and overall program delivery.
- Oversee all grants for department (ensure proper execution according to grant guidelines, reporting, financial oversight/ approvals etc).
- Manage our Community Room programs and staffing for community-based programs.
- Collaborate with local organizations and agencies to promote wellness initiatives and expand our reach within the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- College diploma or University degree in Recreation, Child and Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, or related field

- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience in a similar role, leading a team of staff and/or volunteers.
- Minimum of two (2) years of working directly with children and youth
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- High Five Training Certificate considered an asset
- Healthy Child Development Certificate or equivalent considered an asset
- Training in sports, athletics, outdoor recreation, or related disciplines is considered an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced computer skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Safe Food Handlers’ certificate
- Flexibility to work irregular hours as required for meetings, events, etc. (i.e. early mornings/late evening/weekend)
Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Safeguarding Training.
