Quality Control Manager

Well recognized and established Crab and Lobster Processing Facility is seeking a dynamic individual to help lead its quality control team. The Quality Control Supervisor / Manager-in-Training will perform supervisory duties and work under the Quality Control Manager, with potential to become a Quality Control Manager within our organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the high-quality standards established at Victoria Cooperative Fisheries Ltd.
  • Establish and maintain a positive food safety culture within the site.
  • Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
  • Lead HACCP team meetings and internal, third-party, and regulatory audits and inspections and resolve issues identified during these audits/inspections.
  • Investigate all customer complaints.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and customer expectations.
  • Oversee the responsibilities and activities of the Quality Control Team.
  • Follows good laboratory practices.
  • Performs and/or oversees sampling and physical, chemical, microbiological and sensory testing.
  • Reviews all lab results, ensuring products meet specifications.
  • Maintains and calibrates lab equipment and instruments.

Education/Skills/Assets:

  • Knowledgeable or ability to understand regulatory requirements including the Food and Drug Regulations, Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, and Provincial Regulations (Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture).
  • Able to understand the BRCGS Food Safety and MSC Food requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make key decisions.
  • Strong organizational, planning and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrates consistency, quality, and accuracy in their work.
  • Working knowledge of standard computer programs (Excel, MS Word, etc.)

Job Requirements/Conditions:

  • During the busy harvesting season, the applicant must be able to work long hours 5-7 days per week based.
  • Must be able to work in an office and processing facility environment.
  • Will need to understand all processing jobs/positions in order to coach employees.
  • The ideal candidate will have an interest in Quality Control, some science background and/or experience in a processing facility. The applicant should be a fast learner and be able to work with limited or no supervision. On the job training will be provided.
