Board of Directors

Dr Kingston Memorial Community Health Centre

Director / Member President Secretary Committee Chairperson

Description

We are looking for dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors and help us envision the future of community health in Richmond County. Non-profit and/or fundraising experience is seen as an asset, but individuals from all fields of experience are welcomed to apply. We understand that different perspectives strengthen our team.

About us:

The Doctor Kingston Memorial Community Health Centre has remained focused on the unique needs of rural Richmond County since its inception. We are community focused and community governed. Our facility exists today because of the pioneering work of our dedicated volunteers. In 2013, community members banded together to fundraise to build a space to attract and retain primary care providers.

At present, we operate a clinic with two doctors, a Nurse practitioner, a Family Practice Nurse, a Licensed Practical Nurse, a Clinical Dietician, a Social Worker, and a Registered Counselling Therapist. Recently we have also served as a teaching facility for students in healthcare fields, as a means to attract future talent to the region.

We also host community workshops and events to address social determinants of health. As a Community Health Centre, our mandate allows us to look at health in a broad sense, beyond just physical criteria alone.

Some examples of programs we have done in recent years:

  • Meal delivery program: packaged and delivered healthy local meals to residents facing food insecurity

  • Dementia Friendly Programming: Memory Cafes to foster social inclusion of those living with dementia. Info sessions for families and community members wanting to learn more about dementia.

  • Educational initiatives: Fraud and scam awareness workshops, media literacy workshops.

  • Teddy Bear Picnic: Family friendly summer event to help kids learn health literacy (nutrition, routine vaccinations etc.)

Duties:

  • Establish long term and short term goals.

  • Strategic planning and annual work planning.

  • Prepare for monthly board meetings.

  • Oversee the procurement of funding.

  • Approve annual budgets and monitor finances.

  • Understand, and advocate for the work of the Community Health Centre in the community.

  • Adopt, follow, update and administer Dr. Kingston Memorial Community Health Centre By-Laws.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in non-profit governance or fundraising is considered an asset.

  • Ability to commit time to monthly meetings and committee meetings (virtual.)

  • Advocate with governments, businesses and individuals for public policy, economic development and other initiatives to help us meet our goals.

  • Serve the Community Health Centre as a whole rather than any special interest group or constituency.
