Position Title: Marketing, Fundraising and Community Engagement Coordinator

Position Type: Temporary (14-week work term)

Hours: 30 hours per week

Compensation: $17 per hour

Location: Sydney, Nova Scotia

About Us: The Multicultural Association of Cape Breton (MACB) is dedicated to fostering cultural diversity, supporting newcomers, and creating a welcoming and inclusive community in Cape Breton. Through programs, events, and advocacy, we work to ensure that newcomers feel supported in their transition and have access to resources that help them thrive.

Position Overview: MACB is seeking a passionate and driven Marketing, Fundraising, and Community Engagement Coordinator to support our initiatives. This role is ideal for a graduating student looking to gain hands-on experience in marketing, fundraising, and community outreach while making a meaningful impact. The successful candidate will assist with promoting MACB programs, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting fundraising efforts to enhance our community initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote MACB programs and events.
  • Manage social media channels, create engaging content, and track analytics.
  • Assist with the design and distribution of promotional materials (flyers, newsletters, press releases, etc.).
  • Support media outreach efforts, including drafting press releases and coordinating interviews.

Fundraising & Grant Support

  • Assist in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships.
  • Support fundraising campaigns by creating donor outreach materials and managing donor engagement.
  • Help coordinate fundraising events and initiatives to generate community support.

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Build relationships with local businesses, community organizations, and potential partners.
  • Assist in organizing and promoting community events, including cultural celebrations and networking opportunities.
  • Engage with volunteers and community members to enhance participation in MACB’s existing initiatives and new initiatives.
  • Setup and closing of weekly markets
  • and other tasks that may arise

Qualifications and Skills

  • Currently completing or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with social media management and digital marketing tools.
  • Passion for community engagement, cultural diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Graphic design and/or video editing skills are an asset but not required.
  • Working at various locations in downtown Sydney

Since our establishment in June 2024, MACB has been tirelessly working to create spaces and opportunities that celebrate newcomers’ integration into Cape Breton while supporting locals through cultural experiences. Some of our key initiatives include:

  • MUCU Market: A weekly downtown Sydney market that highlights local farmers, artisans, and food entrepreneurs.
  • Whale House Pop-Up Bistro: A year-round culinary space offering diverse international cuisines such as Lebanese, Vietnamese, Nigerian, Greek, Filipino, Jamaican, Chinese, and Mexican.
  • Community Events: Collaborations with local organizations to bring cultural workshops, festivals, and events including outdoor movies at Wentworth Park.
  • Support for Local Businesses: Partnering with Village People Coffee to introduce a locally roasted coffee at the Whale House. Supporting over 30+ local businesses and organizations!
