Reports to: Operations Manager

Position Status: Full Time

Salary:  $50,836 - $59,525 annually

Start Date: Immediately

Office Location: 399 Charlotte Street (serving Centre Scolaire Étoile De L'Acadie)

The YMCA of Cape Breton is looking for a passionate bilingual (French) professional to join our team in the dual role of Case Manager and School Liaison supporting the work of our NS Works Centers. This a dual role, 75% Case Manager and 25% School Liaison.

 Position Summary

 Case Manager

The YMCA of Cape Breton Nova Scotia Works (NSW) Employment Services Centres offer an integrated bundle of employment services to help Nova Scotians understand, prepare for and meet the needs of the provincial labour market. Additionally, we provide services to support employers in recruiting, managing and developing the talent they require to be more productive in the global economy.

Case Managers 75% of your time is responsible for assessing an individual’s employment/career needs and identify those who are suitable for case management. Case managers work with these individuals in a collaborative, client driven process to develop a Return-to-Work Action Plan (RTWAP). These actions of a Case Manager must address the specific needs of the client as documented in their goals. The Case Manager must support accountability by organizing service delivery that is appropriate, coordinated, and timely to address client needs and desired outcomes.

Responsibilities

As the Case Manager, duties include:

  • Conduct client needs assessment, including Level 1 and Level 2 Assessments (others as needed).
  •  Identify strengths and barriers to employment; Develop a RTWAP plan to address barriers.
  • Remain abreast of funding programs, community organizations, service providers and referral agencies;
  • Maintain client files in web-based application while complying with privacy protocols;
  • Actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings;
  • Deliver information sessions and conduct employment related workshops, as required;
  • Liaise with other agencies on behalf of Nova Scotia Works, participating in committees, projects or activities, when appropriate;
  • Monitor and evaluate RTWAP - adjust as needed;
  • Participate in program and service development that is responsive to the evolving needs of clients – ensuring maximum effectiveness and efficiency
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Position Summary

School Liaison

The School Liaison 25% of your time is spent as a pivotal role within the Nova Scotia Works Employment Services model by supporting students in grades 7-12, and their families and caregivers in navigating career and education pathway decisions and labour market information through community-based employment assistance services.

Responsibilities:

As the Bilingual School Liaison, duties include:

  •  Identify services and tools needed to support student and labour market connections
  • Plan, promote and deliver career supports
  • Promote and deliver Let’s Talk Careers program at the Junior and Senior High School levels
  • Provide individualized and/or group career support to students and families
  • Use career software platforms to navigate labour market information, employment opportunities and to explore required workplace expectations
  • Navigation of employment and career planning resources needed to achieve career goals
  • Delivery of student workshops focused on essential and employability skills that align with LMI, workplace expectations and job opportunities
  • Provision, navigation and interpretation of current and relevant Labour Market Information to students and families
  • Work collaboratively across the province to share resources and deliver virtual offerings to tap expertise and created delivery efficiencies and opportunities
  • Develop and enhance relationships with education (public school and post-secondary), community organizations, service providers, employers/ industry partners and other referral agencies
  • Assist students in accessing resources and information required to achieve career goals
  • Access and Implement tools to measure success of Nova Scotia Works School Liaison supports and outreach

 Qualifications

  •  Must be Bilingual (French) required to service local French school
  • Willing to obtain the Certified Career Development Practitioner designation
  • Willing to obtain the Case Manager Specialization Certification
  • Education in Human Services or related field of study OR a combination of education/work/volunteer experience would be an asset
  • Must be willing to travel through the Cape Breton Regional Municipality
  • Must be available to work evenings and/or weekends on occasion
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Good knowledge of community organizations, service providers, and referral agencies
  • Ability to access and effectively use information and communications technology (Microsoft Office applications and online communications tools)
  • Strong networking and effective communication skills – verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal and judgment skills
  • Demonstrates practice of inclusion, ethical decision making and respect for diversity
  • Commitment to professional development and career self-management

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training
