Place
of Work
Your office will be located on the Cape
Breton University Campus in the LCI suite of offices. This position requires
national and international travel, estimated at two weeks per trip on a
quarterly basis. Contingent on the nature of your projects at hand, remote work
is permitted, however the expectation is that this position will be office
based.

Overview
The Information Technology (IT) Specialist
for LearnCorp International works directly with the IT Services Team at Cape
Breton University. This position focuses on enterprise application solutions, data
storage and integrity as well as system integration. The enterprise applications systems portfolio
includes LearnCorp International’s major enterprise systems. This includes student
information systems, microsoft suite systems and learning management systems.
Additionally, other systems may be imlpemented in the near future that will aid
process improvement at the company during expansion. Specefically, this role
will lead the implementation/integration of enterprise systems such as Moodle,
Microsoft Sharepoint and Blue Course Evaluation. Additionally, this role will
be responsible for the building and management of the LearnCorp International
Website. The IT Specialist will serve as a vital resource to the LearnCorp Team
in the rapid growth phase that the company is currently experiencing. The role
will be the lead of information technology at the company and will have the
support of the CBU IT Services Team.
Key
Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide assistance and expertise in troubleshooting systems, addressing requests, and resolving complex problems including user support for LearnCorp International team and students studying with LCI.
- Assist with Project Coordination for LearnCorp International team.
- User Training as required for LearnCorp International team and students studying with LCI.
- Demonstrates professional communication skills both in-person and through online interactions when dealing with LearnCorp International team stakeholders.
- Provide primary technical support (in-person and remotely) for smart classrooms and educational technology (includes setup, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs).
Software Acquisition, Configuration, Installation and Maintenance
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of applications and capabilities within the LearnCorp International Service Portfolio and is the subject matter expert on assigned applications and/or technologies.
- Troubleshoot software installation failures and network problems at the end user computing device and peripheral level.
- Install, configure and maintain software for the LearnCorp Community, labs, and classroom computers on campus.
- Work with external vendors to troubleshoot software issues and network failures associated with end user computing devices, peripherals, smart classrooms, and educational technology.
- Update installed operating systems and application packages as service packs become available to solve known issues.
- Facilitate network printer installs.
Hardware Acquisition, Configuration, Installation and Maintenance
- Configure, in collaboration with other IT teams, supported equipment (desktops, notebooks, printers, tablets, etc.) and peripherals according to standards in response to service requests, including University-owned cellular devices.
- Order, process requests, set up features, and provide technical support including WiFi for cellular phones & tablet.
- Troubleshoot phone related problems for Centrex and cellular phone lines.
- Repair, replace or refurbish supported end user devices and redeploy as required.
- Maintain various models of printers, including cleaning, replacing defective parts, and troubleshooting defective print media.
- Maintain warrantied equipment in conjunction with the primary vendor, including diagnosis, ordering, replacing warranty parts, and returning defective components in accordance with established procedures.
- Research and test new technologies, including proposed Evergreen systems as they become available to determine if they meet requirements and needs.
- Reserve portable specialized
equipment on availability.
Applications Management
- Follow CBU change management procedures in maintaining and upgrading Enterprise Applications including pre-test, implementation, and post-verification while implementing enterprise applications at LearnCorp International.
- Use a version control system in a team environment to maintain a repository and history of all application changes.
- Program and/or configure solutions using languages and tools supported by the University in collaboration with LearnCorp International.
- Conduct process testing and integration testing in conjunction with users.
- Serve as system subject matter experts in ad-hoc committees and working groups.
Website
- Build LearnCorp International Website while collaborating with the Marketing Partners in the design process.
- Maintain backend of the website once build is complete and continuously monitor and update the website.
- Track Analytics on the website.
Enterprise Systems International Role Out
- Lead the enterprise systems role out internationally and domestically.
- Implement Moodle LMS Software to all LearnCorp International Program Offerings.
- Provide Training to Instructors delivering LearnCorp International Programming on Moodle Software.
- Understand the technology usage parameters in multiple countries (Guyana/Mozambique).
- Integrate Blue Course Evaluation Software to all LCI Programs and track analytics from set evaluations.
System Components
- Current Enterprise Applications (Colleague, CRM Advance, CRM Advise, Moodle, CRM Recruit, Elevate, etc.)
- Cloud based services and systems (Microsoft 365, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft Teams, PowerBI, etc.)
- On-Prem and Cloud implementations of database technology including Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
- Integrated Cloud Applications (StarRez, Simplicity Accommodate, Blu Explorance, Ex Libris Aleph/Alum)
Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma/degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field combined with software development training.
- An equivalent combination of education, minimum 2-year diploma, and a combination of specialized technical training and experience considered.
- Minimum of four years of relevant and related experience.
- Recent, relevant and demonstratable technical proficiency in relevant languages and development tools. Thorough understanding of structured programming principles, systems analysis techniques, system design, industry standard testing principles, system implementation, user training and troubleshooting.
- Recent and demonstratable experience using HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, PHP, Python, Java, and modern frameworks.
- Development skills in C# ASP.NET MVC and Razor framework.
- Knowledge of Entity Framework, LINQ, ADO.net.
- Knowledge and recent, practical experience with JSON and XML.
- Strong database skills in Microsoft SQL Server, relational databases, and SQL optimization.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to keep abreast on trends and changes and learn new developmental languages, operating systems, and technology required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to participate in a creative or exploratory process.
- Knowledge and experience in application development and support.
- Certification in ITIL a definite asset.
- Recent and demonstratable experience with Ellucian Colleague, CRM Advance, CRM Advise, CRM Recruit and Ethos Data Integration a definite asset.
- Knowledge and experience with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and AWS (Amazon Web Services) a definite asset.
- Proficiency in version control systems such as Git and NuGet.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams are a definite asset.
- Familiarity with Microsoft BI products (Microsoft SQL Server SSIS, SSAS tabular, Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and PowerBI).
- Understand data warehousing, dimensional data modeling, and other core BI concepts.
- Knowledge and experience with Learning Management Systems such as Moodle or D2L are a definite asset.
- Practical knowledge of Scrum, Agile, DevOps, and Project Management methodologies are a definite asset.
- Ability to restructure, redesign and maintain a website.
- Knowledge and understanding of networking and protocols.
- Knowledge and understanding of various operating and computer systems.
- Demonstratable knowledge of security and cybersecurity best practices.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
